Port underwing stern

This view is from the rear of the boat on the port side again. The rear underwing is not subject to pounding so it remains one layer of 3/8 plywood.

Again on overloaded and hard driven boats, there has been occasional cracks appear at the underwing to hull side joint in the forward area. To strengthen these areas, I did two things.

On the outside of the joint, I increased the joining surface by laying a 1 X 1 along the whole joint, front to back. This 1 X 1 contacted both the underwing surface and the hull side surface, both on the main hull and on the float as well. These two areas were finished with a large radius filet and glassed over with one layer of 6-oz. cloth.

On the inside of these joints, I glassed the area with one layer of 18 oz. roving. I used a tape of 6-inch width so 3 inches would cover each side of the joint.
